RESUMO

Nowadays, Brazilian telecommunications sector is constituted by 32 firms that have the concession to explore public services in a regulated monopoly. Among these operators, 28 are state owned firms belonging to TelebrÃs holding. This sector will be soon restructured in depth with the privatization of these firms and with the introduction of competition in all the country. This work shows an industrial structure and competition analysis in this new scenario. Some basic concepts of telecommunications systems are defined to allow a broad understanding and general analysis of the sector. Technological and regulated scenarios are presented and based on Michael Porterâs theoretical models and addition of some adequate dynamic and technology intensive paradigm, diverse characteristics are identified about future actors and industrial environment. According to these characteristics, generic competitive strategies are elaborated to TelebrÃs System firms, or their successors after privatization. These strategies, of great utility to guide the entrance in this new competitive environment, are presented to industrial segments of network provisioning or interconnection services and final service provisioning, which the consumer service
