RESUMO
An experiment was conducted in the Poultry Farm Sector of the Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) with 7 days period duration to determine the energy values and the nutrient digestibility in protein sources for broiler chicks in the pre-initial phase. A total of 480 male chicks of the Cobb line with one day old submitted to the traditional method of total excreta collection, allotted to nine treatments with six replicates each. The experimental unit consisted of nine chickens. The treatments were: 1- reference diet (RD); 2-RD with the addition of soybean meal; 3- RD with the addition of toasted soybean meal; 4- RD with the addition of micronized soybean meal; 5- RD with corn gluten meal; 6- RD with meat and bone meal 40; 7 â RD meat and bone meal 45; 8 â RD with fish meat; 9- RD with viscera meal. The protein feeds of plant origin replaced RD by 30% and the protein feeds of animal origin by 20%. Simultaneously, six replicates of 8 birds were placed in fasting to determine endogenous losses. The analyzed variables were the values of apparent metabolizable energy (AME), true metabolizable energy (TME) and the nitrogen balance corrected AME and TME (AMEn and TMEn, respectively) as well as the dry mater apparent digestibility coefficient (DMADC) of feeds. The sources of plant origin shown energy values lower than those found in the usual composition tables while the one of animal origin presented higher values. The DMADCs of the feeds shown a large range. The micronized soybean shown the highest DMADC (65.46%) whereas soybean meal the lowest (45.31%). The feeds of animal origin fish meal presented the highest (71.10%) and meal and bone meal 45 the lowest (42.62%). The values found of AMEn for soybean meal, toasted soybean meal, micronized soybean and corn gluten meal were 2365, 3427, 4022 and 3762 kcal/kg of DM, respectively and for MBM 40, MBM 45, fish meal and viscera meal 2849, 2065, 3492 e 3360 kcal/kg de MS, respectively.
