RESUMO

The water quality evaluation described by the Resolution NÂ 357/05 of National Council of Environmental (CONAMA), that revoked the NÂ 20/86, established that the Environmental Agencies measured the water quality through physical, chemical, biological analysis and chronic and acute toxicities tests. By these testes is possible to know the toxic effect of substances thrown in the water, and important in the investigation of hydric pollution. This research was carried out to assess the acute toxicity testes with luminous bacteria (Vibrio fischeri) and microcrustaceon (Daphnia magna) in the Quality Program of Monitoring of Hydrographic Catchment of Ipojuca River â PE. Samples were collected bimonthly, from October 2002 to October 2004 in 9 station of Monitoring Program of Hydrographic Catchments of State of Pernambuco. The results obtained showing that the evaluation from 198 samples, 23 samples (12%) showing acute toxicity. The total of samples stations, 3 showing acute toxicity to luminous bacterias and 2 samples showing acute toxicity to microcrustaceon, while 4 station did not give some answer for the tests. Three areas toxics were found, however there are two areas more toxic IP-26 e Ip-49, Bitury river main tributary of Ipojuca River, downstream of Belo Jardim city, and Ipojuca river, downstream of Caruaru city, respectively. The results give emphasize for the significance of the toxicity tests for the evaluation of quality of water, from this give the orientation of the control measure to be adopted
