RESUMO
This study addressed the relationship between the organizational power and personal skills of the employees of a private organization. The Theory of Organizational Power by Mintzberg was used as a theoretical framework. This theory defines the power as an ability to affect the organizational behavior. The political games are used as a move ensured by the political power. These games are played by players with different personal skills. The variable personal skills is defined as the set of behaviors that are most often expressed by an individual who works in the organization. That is why personal skills was selected as a variable in this research. The main objective was to establish relations between power settings, that show the power of organizational structure set in six different types, and the political games, represented by the personal skills. Three scales were used in this study. First, the game of power scale. Second, the personal skills scale. Third, the settings of power in the organizations scale. The methods for gathering data were applied to a sample of 140 employees of a private organization in Brasília, Brazil. The results showed that in the organization researched the settings of autonomous power prevails, the personal profile of the individuals of the organizations that predominates is the self-demanding type, and the prevailing power game is the specialists game. The personal profile was the variable mediating the relationship between the variable settings of power and political games. It is expected that this study stimulates future research that broadens the knowledge related to organizational dynamics.
