RESUMO
This research, of qualitative character, has literacy as its theme and the object of study is the pedagogical mediation for the apprehension of the written language in the context of classroom literacy. The research was developed in the context of two classrooms of literacy, and is founded on the following principles: a) on the notion that the cultural-socio-historical learner, subject of the learning process, is constituted in and by social interaction, and that the appropriation of the written language is made through the internationalization of the functions and knowledge socially and historically produced by humanity through processes, necessarily, mediated by other individuals and by language; b) on the conception of language as a social, historical and ideological phenomenon, being dialogy its epistemological principle; c) on the notion of written language as a system of signs culturally built in the social practices, which allows the individual to create a symbolic representation of reality, apprehended by the individual by the internal reconstruction of the elements making up this complex form of language. The subjects of the study are two teachers and the children of their literacy classes. The data come from video taped classroom activities, from notes of on the scene observations and from the interviews with the teachers and children. The data analysis helped to understand: the notion of subject/learner; the notions of learning and written language which are present in the pedagogical activities of the literacy process. It also helped to interpret the meanings given by teachers and children to the process of the apprehension of literacy skills, and, finally, it allowed the researcher to make inferences related to the elements involved in the pedagogical mediation process in the appropriation of the written language by the children.
