RESUMO

This researchs objective is to verify the relationship between the perceived environmental uncertainty, type of the information technology and furniture companies and their participation in the government market. The model used is based in the inter-relationship of the concepts developed by two authors, Miles and Snow (1978) for the organizational strategy and the perceived environmental uncertainty, and MacManus (1991) for the perception of the public purchase system and the participation in the government market. This is a descriptive research, using a cross-sectional survey where quantitative techniques were used, namely: multinomial logistic regression, correlation, Mann-Whitney U test, binomial logistic regression. The data were collected through a questionnaire to which 117 companies adhered, but 88 were selected for the analysis. Five of the hypotheses have been corroborated, four have not and one has been partially corroborated. The typology of Miles and Snow was proven consistent. The organizational strategy is influenced by the perceived environmental uncertainty, and companies with specific types of organizational strategy tend to act more in the peculiar government market. The noncorroborated hypotheses are related to the MacManus (1991) model, indicating that the consequences of the concept perception of the public purchase system should be more studied.
