RESUMO

The main safety concern during the drilling of oil wells is the possibility of blowout. A blowout is the release of hydrocarbons under pressure. In case that the immediate ignition of these hydrocarbons occurs, the expected fire is a jet fire. Jet fire are turbulent diffusion flames. Normally, the thermal energy released for the jet fire is very high and sufficiently destructible for the structures around the fire. The objective of the present work is to structure a methodology to analyze the consequences of a blowout during the drilling operations of offshore wells. The developed methodology was based on the model of management of fire risks considered by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and focus the impact of the thermal energy in human beings in offshore platforms. The developed methodology was applied in practical examples. The practical examples are organized as follows: first one with one high outflow of natural gas and without the influence of wind velocity; the second one with low natural gas outflow without influence of the wind velocity, and the third one with low natural gas outflow but taking in consideration the action of the wind velocity. The results show the seriousness of the problem in studied. A software was developed to estimate the thermal energy radiated by the flame and the impacts of this energy in human beings
