RESUMO

This work aims mainly to identify the professional course and the career anchors of a group of business people in a segment of a financial institution in Bahia state, in order to subsidize policies to people management in the segment they act. To accomplish this research, nine business people of a private bank living in the city of Salvador (BA) were required. Among the authors that have contributed to the theoretical corpus of the work are Super (1990), Chanlat (1995), Kanter (1997), Hall (2004) and Lacombe (2005 ), but Edgar H. Scheins theory of phases and career anchors is more used here. It is an exploratory and qualitative kind study. The research consists of an application of Scheins Career Orientation Inventory and interviews in order to analyzes the professional course of participants and to corroborate (or not) the anchors identified with the inventory. Among the participants of the research are identified the anchors: Lifestyle, Technical/functional competence, Security/Stability, Autonomy/Independence and Pure challenge.
