RESUMO

The present study was developed to examine, starting from a social/cultural point of views, the discourse presented about lesbian and gay characters in Brazilian films. For this analysis, the methodology aims to do the following steps: 1- cataloging of Brazilian films about the subiect, that amount 125 titles: 2- a firstre view, by screening available films that amount 67 litles: 3- working out an analysis film model - structural/significance - having as object of study the homosexual characters construction in the narrative and the gesture form of address (treatment): 4- structurall/significance application in a sample of 10 films from the 67 available, that will permitt the analysis of adjectivation given to the characters, the application of a -resultant - three cathegories or types, in accordance with the degree or density of form of address (treatment) given, and a description of the "Filmic Portrait", that is a synthesis of the discourse of each fílm and that explains lhe resultant type application. After those proceedings, a conclusive text about the total of analised films explicits how, in its great majority, the use of a preponderant model of homosexual constructed by standard characteristics - a stereotype - constitutes a gibe/carnivalization of the character construction. And consequently, takes off the subject any responsible reflection, always denigrating it as a underworld delinquent. On lhe other hand, some films reject such stereotype, through a more advanced and inquisitive form of treatment, stating the homosexual character in a perspective nearer to the reality of current debates about homosexuality
