Sentidos e sonoridades mÃltiplas na mÃsica do coco do Recife e regiÃo metropolitana

RESUMO

The manifestation of the Coco is one of the most expressive and important cultural and social events, among those in Pernambuco, Northeast of Brazil. It is composed of music, poetry and dance. Put together this thriad is a set of folklore, trasmited over the time exclusivelly by oral tradition. Under an anthropological perspective, this research intends to clarify the multi characteristics of the music of the Coco, its more expressive meanings, always experienced both, by individual or group of people living both in the metropolitan areas of Recife as in the Countryside. The content of this writing was spread into five chapters. The first one holds a brief ethnografy, an account of the life of the cantadores (singer both men and women) living in Recife., Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Olinda, Igarassu e ItamaracÃ. In the secund chapter we recall three different basic aspects, which point toward the main meaning of this music, investigating why and how it is so bound to the life and affair of this people: Cantadores e Brincantes. In the third chapter we analize the presence of the Coco concerning religiosous believes. In the fourth chapter we approached its manifestation linked to art and profesional activity. In the fifth, the last one, we focus its musical aesthetic, analizing examples from scores, in rithm, melody and instrumental devices. Finally, we conclude
