RESUMO
The self-concept - the individuals perception of himself - has been considered in literature as one of the most influential emotional aspect in learning disabilities. Furthermore, the self-concept has also been considered as a multidimensional construct or else, we may say that the person develops a particular perception of himself in each environment. So, the objective of this study was verifying if there were significant differences between level of writing disabilities and general, school, social, family and personal self-concepts. It was applied the ADAPE scale (Avaliação de dificuldades de aprendizagem na escrita) designed by Sisto (2001) and the self-concept was evaluated by using the scale designed by Sisto et ali. (2001). The sample was composed by 277 students, both genders, between 9-10 years, from elementary school. The results showed that writing disabilities are significantly related to general self-concept (F=3,805 and p=0,011) and to school self-concept (F=15,12 and p=0,000), verifying that as the levels of writing disabilities increase there is a decrease of general and school self-concept.
