Motivos que dificultam a participação ativa em comunidades virtuais : um estudo qualitativo em uma organização do setor de comunicações

RESUMO

The Knowledge, currently, is considered by organizations as a valuable asset in gaining a competitive advantage. Hence, such organizations are acquiring the conscience the strategic importance of establishment and development of initiatives for Knowledge Management. Given this, and also, due to globalization and the advancement of information technology, the Virtual Communities as an initiative towards Knowledge Management emerge as a promising proposal. While information technology represents a facility for creating virtual communities, moreover, as challenge the literature suggests that there is a low level of active participation of members in some communities. Therefore, the objective of this study was a qualitative study to ascertain the reasons which lead the members not to participate actively in the virtual communities organizational environment. For this reason, we did a field study of a public organization in the area of Communications. The research was structured in a qualitative and quantitative standpoint. The procedures for data collection involving the use of questionnaires of opinion and conducting interviews, based on the method of focus groups, in virtual communities existing within that organization. For the quantitative research were used 17 factors raised in the literature and in a related study existing on the subject. These factors were submitted to the assessment of the members of virtual communities that organization, so that point, based on their experiences, which were considered in their views factors that made it difficult the participation. Subsequently, we did interviews with focus groups to hear the reasons why the factors identified as most important were considered barriers to participation. As a result of quantitative research the factors identified as most important were: (i) lack of time to join, (ii) lack of support from the community organization, (iii) Lack of moderation active in the community, (iv) Lack of validating the content of the community and dissemination of results, (v) lack of realization of events presence in the community, (vi) lack of knowledge of existing members with respect to what is discussed in the community. And in qualitative research was possible to deepen and identify some of the reasons that are behind these factors, not for members of virtual communities participate actively engaged in organization the target of this study. Finally, the results reinforced that the great challenge in developing virtual communities in the organizational environment is not only in creating them, but also to establish conditions so that members can share and generate new knowledge by means of an active articipation.
