RESUMO

In this thesis we bring Cazuzas lyrics into relationship with Brazilian poetic tradition. Cazuza, born Agenor Miranda Araújo Neto, composed songs that were broadcast by the mass media. By means of a reconstituition of his dialogue with its historical period, namely the Brazilian urban space of the 1980s, we intend to search for a characterization of this poet. The analysis of texts written by the composer makes it possible to prove their dialogue with other texts written by his contemporaries and that are part of literary tradition. Common points with his contemporaries are the urban thematic, the experience of an era that tried to express itself through song texts. Nevertheless, Cazuzas production has its distinctive characteristics. The first chapter of this thesis offers an analytical view of the 1980s, its representatives in music, literature and of how some previous artistic manifestations inspired the renewal of this decade. We register the importance of some artists that influenced the work of the composer and we verify Cazuzas influence and the repercussion of his work on the work of his contemporaries and even in the present time, with his music being reedited and his biography transposed to the screen. The second chapter emphasizes the uniqueness of Cazuzas work as representative of the so-called rocker generation. With his originality and poetic opulence, Cazuza associated a background full of tradition with the obstinacy of his generation. The third chapter is devoted to the analysis of the conception of love in Cazuzas lyrics. The representation of love, sometimes intensively revealed, other times concealed, is identified through the images used in the lyrics.
