RESUMO

The Political Scienceâs formalization process, mainly in the second half of the 20th century, still finds some resistance from large groups of the fieldâs scientific community. This work aims to expose the use of game theory (GT), main Political Scienceâs methodological tool of formalization, in the recent production of a set of fields of study in Political Science (PS). The time period of research is set between 2000 and 2006, with analyses of nine papers published in journals of large relevancy in PS, such as American Political Science Review, Journal of Conflict Resolution, British Journal of Political Science and the American Journal of Politics. The papers read were grouped in three major areas: International Relations, Institutional Analysis, and Legislative Studies. In this work, besides exploring the multitude of game theory in PS, I take into account its explanatory limits and insight possibilities of studied cases. I argue on advantages and disadvantages of GT usage based on its versatility, on the crescent interdisciplinarity of Political Science, and on methodological individualism
