RESUMO

In purpose to minimize the impact on Euterpe edulis natural populations, once they are assured by law, some palm trees, in Brazil, are cultivated in project plantation to heart of palm exploration, among this ones, the australian-royal-palm-tree (Archontophoenix spp.) in Santa Catarina. In spite of the crescent importance of this cultivation, there are no elucidative researches about pests associated to this exotic specie, the few existent information are relating to the specie cultivation. Having in view there are no researches available with scientific fundament geared towards the theme, and that the cultivation of the type to commercial purpose is rising in the State of Santa Catarina, this work realized a survey of the potential pests, through studies realized in field and laboratory, in pre-cut and post- cut stage plants (stem cut remainder), with the purpose to define the presence of the potential pests associated to the australian-royal-palm-tree cultivation. The research was realized in programmed plantation in the Itajaí Middle Valley, where 16 parcels were installed, totalizing 320 sampled plants, in 2 predifined regions in Gaspar and Indaial cities, with the last sub-divided in 2 areas (Encano and Arapongas). With the sampling in field, it was observed the presence of insects as much in areas where it have already occurred the heart of palm exploration as in no-explored areas. Among the insects observed in field, it was possible to collect and identify some species listed by several authors as palm tree pests: Rhynchophorus palmarum (Curculionidae), Homalinotus coriaceus (Curculionidae), Metamasius hemipterus (Curculionidae), Metamasius ensirostris (Curculionidae), Brassolis sophorae (Nymphalidae) e Cerataphis lataniae (Aphididae), where some damages were also found. So, analyzing the present situation of the cultivation, it could verify that the presence of potential pests in the Australian-royal-palm-tree seems not to worry the majority of the producers, but, the fact of the specie being an exotic plant cultivated under monoculture form, combined to the plantation form and management, and to the climatic characteristics of the plantation areas, could favor the increase of the pests, once just after established in the growing the pest will cause damages of economic order
