RESUMO

The agroindustries have generated expressive amounts of residues, what makes important to reevaluate their role on the productive chain, because not only it means a serious economic problem due to the waste, but also it is a serious environmental problem. In Santa Catarina, one of the traditional processes of the agribusiness involves the production of heart of palm that, in the last decade, has been extracted, in the majority, from the Australian king palm tree (Archontophoenix spp.). The process originates expressive quantities of leaf sheaths, leaves and trunks that have not found a properly destination yet and little has been about their economic potentialities. This way, the present work aimed to analyze the viability of the residues of the median sheath and trunk as substrates for the axenic production of shiitake (Lentinula edodes). In this study it was used the strains of Lentinula edodes, LE-96/13, LE-98/55, CCB-515 and CCB-514 and, as supplements for cultivation, it was used other agroindustrial residues: cassava starch and soybean meal. Firstly it was evaluated the radial mycelial growth in Petri dishes with different combinations of substrates which resulted in 9 treatments for each palm residue. Then it was determined the axial mycelial growth in test tubes containing the substrates for the axenic production (T1 = 65% of sheath, 30% de of cassava starch 5% of soybean meal; T2 = 60% of sheath, 35% of cassava starch and 5% soybean meal; T3 = 95% of sheath and 5% of cassava starch; T4 = 65% of trunk, 30% of cassava starch and 5% of soybean meal; T5 = 60% of trunk, 35% of cassava starch and 5% of soy meal and T6 = 95% of trunk and 5% cassava starch). Finally it was performed the axenic cultivation of the strains in polypropylene bags under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity for 147 days. The radial mycelial growth was higher in the media that presented a predominance of trunk (2,9mm/dia). In the experiment with axenic substrate in the test tube, the higher growth took place in the medium containing 60% of trunk, 35% of cassava starch and 5% of soybean meal (87,5mm). However, the production of basidiome was higher in the media containing median sheath with a maximum of 60% of biological. From the tested strains the L. edodes LE-96/13 was the one that presented the higher production of basidiomes, followed by LE-98/55. In relation to the use of trunk as a substrate for the axenic production of the tested strains, it did not show to be appropriate to do so, as soon as the cultivation blocks did not present consistence and porosity. The leaf sheath utilization in the shiitake cultivation is possible proved in this way
