RESUMO

The XVII century was marked for the Portuguese empire overseas as a turbulent period, not only on account of collisions made to resume the crown of the hands of Hispanics, as well as to make its sovereignty and power remained intact in American achievements. Threatening this objective, many social movements erupted in the tropics, however, the target of rebels was not the monarch, but their administrative representatives. Within this perspective that fits the Revolta da CachaÃa, held in Rio de Janeiro between 1660-1661, and the Revolta de Beckman, which struck the state of MaranhÃo e GrÃo-Parà in the years of 1684-1685 as a result of adverse conditions and problems of regions colonial practice incompatible with the policy pursued by officers of the crown. This time, this doctoral thesis intention is to conduct a comparative study between these two movements, seeking to understand the scope of the tensions and fueling the changes that the region suffered after the end of the movement. Taking into account similar motivations - dissatisfaction with governors or local groups, the application of commercial companies and the search for a balance in the distribution of benefits - aim to understand how two such different regions could develop forms of resistance as equals, with different strategies that culminated more in care of the interests of the monarch Lusitanian. Furthermore, it is here in order to uncover the role of these achievements in political and economic fabric of American Portuguese, especially with the prospect the project proposed for those sugar project in this century
