RESUMO

Legal approach to credit report records to show their importance as public character entities. Thorough understanding of these information services from the point of view of (a) credit; (b) the prospective/registered consumers, (c) the consulters, (d) the information providers and (e) the economy. Analysis of outlines regarding positive and negative input information. Study of the prospective/registered consumers main rights concerning credit reporting agencies (their right to data communication, access, block, correction and cancel). Research to allow a harmonic coexistence between the right to credit/information/security/stability and the right to registered/prospective consumer privacy. Mention of Compared Law pertaining the referred topics. Emphasis on the functionalities of credit reporting agencies to the consumer society. Conclusion on the importance of the analyzed services as instruments of (a) protection of trust in credit relations, (b) empowerment of access to credit and protection against overindebtness, (c) assistance to decisions concerning creditnegotiation based on relevant information, (d) credit collection, and (e) contribution to economic stability
