RESUMO

The subject of this work is the process of innovation that occurs from scientific knowledge produced in the university. The main purpose was to investigate the history of two innovation processes and to develop a partial heuristic that will work as a reference for the formularization of politics and practices of innovation in the university context. To reach this purpose, two cases of innovation on the farming sector that occurred from scientific knowledge mostly developed at Universidade Federal de Lavras, were investigated. In the first case, the study was based on research carried through in the animal science area, which enabled for the sprouting of a new nutritional complement applied to cattle. In the second case, the target of the investigation was a research carried through in the biotechnology of agrarian sciences field, which enabled the sprouting of a bio-activator of natural nutrients of the soil. The chosen methodology was the case study with historical perspective. The used techniques were, basically, documental inquiry and interviews with researchers. The theoretical model is anchored in premises which state that the aim of case studies is âto generalize instead of distinguishingâ and is supported by the âcontrolled opportunismâ concept. The study has developed a heuristic of the process of innovation that approaches the transference of the scientific knowledge to the market, providing the economic development. The results led to the identification of four critical factors of the innovation process based on scientific research. They are: i) values; II) integration of the viabilities; III) rupture of scientific domains and IV) integration among institutional spheres. These same factors have led to the development of the heuristic CPR (culture, processes and resources). The important focuses, pointed by the heuristic, must deserve special attention from the decision maker.
