RESUMO

Charles Taylor`s multiculturalist discussion about identity is the starting point for this research, which investigates how the human actions and the teacher`s moral positions turns out to interfere into the way the negroes issue are taught in schools. It`s focused upon the analysis of images and afro-brazilian themes brought to classes by professors who teach history, arts and portuguese in the city of São Paulo and its metropolitan region. The research tries to explain how the multicultural issues interfere in the law, through positive political actions. It also doubts the meaning of culture and the way it affects schools and teacher`s background. In addition, this work presents the different manners negroes are viewed in didatic books and how their identity was built in Brazil through the arts, the press and the political debate. The investigation concludes that teacher`s ability to think themselves as individuals is largely determined by their interactions and social experiences. The perception those teachers have about themselves depends on cognitive structures, similar interestings and other qualifications, which happen in a scenario raised by different social groups interactions. It`s exactly that perception the resposable for so different choices inside the culture, made by so different teachers. To sum up, it turns out to prove that the way information is selected is directly connected to the values which guide their lives.
