RESUMO

The theme treated on this dissertation is the analysis of the environmental focus inside technical schools / technological colleges. Such a theme is relevant because technical schools are currently the most important suppliers of qualified work force for industries in general. These industries damage the planet with devastating environmental impacts, by the waste coming from their industrial processes. For this reason, technical schools must also offer an environmental and preservationist view for their students in order to minimize environmental damages caused by them inside their work stations. The aim of this work is to detect the presence or the absence of an environmental focus in the school environment, as well as the presence or absence of campaigns concerning environmental preservation in the school environment. This dissertation started with a study on the environmental evolution, environmental education, and technical schools and also on the ISO 14000 series of norms. The research has been based methodologically in a study of case which basically consisted of producing a questionnaire and applying it to students from high school and technical courses, and to the school workers in a technical school / technological college located in Curitiba, state of Parana, Brazil. As a result, 37 graphs were got, which were duly analyzed and offered some really significant information for the conclusion of this dissertation. Generally speaking, technical schools offer some information on environmental preservation, mainly on courses which Environmental management was studied as a subject. Unfortunately, the quantity of information is still very short when compared to the need of awareness they should offer. Many students do not even know that the school where they study in is already certificated by the ISO 9000 series of norms (the series of norms which standardize the industrial processes to achieve quality in the process, services and products). They neither know whether the school promotes a waste selective collection. There is a lot to do in order to improve the environmental knowledge for students and workers in general, but it is possible to happen. It depends mainly on the efforts of students, teachers and school workers in a general way. The graphs concerning the data related to the researches; their analyzes; the study on the history of technical schools; their evolution along the time; and also the study on environmental education are treated on the following chapters of this dissertation.
