RESUMO

This study concerns the production of meanings on political representation that takes place in the dialogical context of new strategies for political participation being developed in contemporary Brazilian society. With this goal, it was observed the public space that is organized around the experience of the Participatory Budget (OrÃamento Participativo), aiming to retrace the process of construction of models of political representation. Observation of such practice indicates that a process of knowledge construction is on course, one that is articulated with new discourses concerning political demands. It is highlighted the social representations that the subjects immersed in such practices express both in focused interviews and in the process of communication and discursive construction realized in their interactions as representatives of communities. Also, the process of construction of the groupâs identity is focused on. The analysis reveals that the discourses produced during the interviews are anchored in representations that charcterize the social network which they were previously a part of, that is, that evokes their previous identity and social membership. Such discourses rest on models of political representation that were historically and culturally constructed in social relations
