RESUMO

In the Electrical Power Systems, the Static Compensators â CE are equipment of extreme importance for tension regulation, both in a permanent regime as in a transitory one, mainly in systems where the load centers are located at great distances of the generating plant. This dissertation presents an analysis of the fault causes in the Static Compensator installed in the Fortaleza Substation of the Companhia Hidro ElÃtrica do SÃo Francisco - CHESF, Cearà State, Brasil, emphasizing the origins of the faults and its solutions, based on the Fault Tree Analyse of this Equipment. On this research, we found the Fault Tree of the CE, composed of 62 basic events from which, 20 presented sufficient evidence for the parametric analysis, on a 22 years database. From the failure probability curves of the basic events, we elaborated a plan of action with improvements on the maintenance procedures, to enable the elevation of the availability of the CE, with the purpose of maximizing the remuneration of the Transmission Company, in this case the CHESF, and the reliability of the transmission system
