A laicização do ensino: um debate na imprensa de Taubaté-SP acerca do novo modelo republicano de educação (1891-1905)

RESUMO

This work aims to examine the reports in Taubaté press in the passage of XIX to XX century, on the new model of education advertised by Republicans especially with regards to aspect of the teaching laicization. Inside the perspective of Cultural History, this work presents firstly the discussions that were established from the installation of an American College of Protestant Confession in the city in 1890, which brought as a result of an intense debate possible loss of Catholic hegemony at a time of a teaching laicization with the proclamation of the Republic. Two journals with antagonistic positions are targets of analysis: O Noticiarista and Jornal do Povo. Later shows the continuation of discussions on the teaching laicization, incorporating also other issues relating to the implementation of this new educational model, as the use of new teaching methods. Two other journals are reviewed at that stage: A Verdade and O Taubateano. The choice of media as a source of search is justified to be an area of excellence to understand the dynamics of society with respect to their way of thinking and as a vehicle for cultural upbringing and moral of the people
