RESUMO

This study seeks to understand whether the environmental dimension forms part of the curriculum of an educational program for young people and adults, and, if it does, in what form. Due to the serious environmental crisis which humanity is going through, there is an urgent need to raise awareness of the importance of revalorizing the relationship between man and nature. With this in mind, it is necessary to determine how the environmental dimension is integrated into the lives of those who, at some time, have been excluded from the educational process. This study sought to investigate how the subjects perceive the relationship between man and nature, quality of life, and day-to-day environmental awareness. To achieve these objectives, surveys and document analyses were carried out on the political and educational policies of the school, and the teaching records. Semi-structured interviews were also carried out with teachers working in classrooms, with those who construct the teaching material used, and with students. The results of the study suggest that the environmental dimension does form part of the curriculum, although it is not considered to be of primary importance, and is not seen as a link between the various subjects. Also, teachers feel insecure about including this subject in the curriculum, due to their lack of knowledge of the area. Both students and teachers, in general, are aware of the socialenvironmental crisis, but they are not always able to transform this awareness into practical solutions for daily life.
