1. Horse grazing systems: understory biomass and plant biodiversity of a Pinus radiata stand
Horse grazing systems may affect productivity and biodiversity of understory developed under Pinus radiata D. Don silvopastoral systems, while acting as a tool to reduce the risk of fire. This study compared continuous and rotational grazing systems effect upon biomass, fractions of stem, sprouts, leaves and woody parts of Ulex europaeus L. and alpha (Specie

3. Carcinoma ductal invasivo mamÃrio esporÃdico: uma abordagem histoquÃmica e imunohistiquÃmica
Breast cancer is the most frequent neoplasia and the main cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Among the several types of mammary gland neoplasia Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) represents 65% to 80% of all carcinomas. The major problem concerning this neoplasia is the great genotypic and phenotypic heterogeneity. This feature explains the increasing se

A reg

This work evaluated alterations in the expression of carbohydrates and the density of tumour cells and Langerhans cells (LC) using lectin histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and computer image analysis in neoplasic cutaneous tissues. Biopsies of basal cell carcinoma (BCC, n=35), epidermoid carcinoma (EpC, n= 18), tricoepithelioma (TE, n=12), keratoacanthoma

8. Endothelial markers in malignant vascular tumours of the liver: superiority of QB-END/10 over von Willebrand factor and Ulex europaeus agglutinin 1.
A new monoclonal antibody, QB-END/10, raised against the CD34 antigen in human endothelial cell membranes and haemopoietic progenitor cells, was studied for its usefulness as a marker of neoplastic vascular cells in 21 angiosarcomas and seven malignant haemangioendotheliomas of the liver. QB-END/10 was both more sensitive and more specific than Von Willebran

9. The effect of heat on the A, B, and H antigenic strength of human red cells
The reaction of A cells with anti-A, B cells with anti-B, O cells with Ulex europaeus anti-H is reduced by heat (56°C) treatment. This is demonstrated using an automated haemagglutination technique with which minor differences in reactions can be detected.

10. Immunostaining for CD31 and CD34 in Kaposi sarcoma.
AIMS--To evaluate antibodies directed against CD31 (JC70/A) and CD34 (QBEND/10 and anti-HPCA-1) more extensively in Kaposi sarcoma; to assess their value in routine diagnosis; and to compare them with the traditional endothelial cell markers Ulex europaeus agglutinin 1 (UEA-1) and factor VIII related antigen. METHODS--Twenty four cases of Kaposi sarcoma were

11. Regional distribution and alterations of lectin binding to colorectal mucin in mucosal biopsies from controls and subjects with inflammatory bowel diseases.
Glycoconjugate composition of colorectal goblet cell mucin was characterized according to the anatomical distribution of lectin-binding sites in mucosal biopsies from 35 control subjects and 55 patients with inflammatory bowel disease. 24 of the controls had mucosal inflammation on biopsy, without clinical evidence of inflammatory bowel disease. These inflam

12. Coxsackievirus B3 infection alters plasma membrane of neonatal skin fibroblasts.
Replication of coxsackievirus B3 occurred for days in cultures of murine neonatal skin fibroblasts in the absence of cytopathology and resulted in alteration of the plasma membrane. Dual immunofluorescence studies showed that the lectin Ulex europaeus agglutinin I bound only to cells producing viral capsid antigens. Cultures of coxsackievirus B3-inoculated m
