13. Efeito do bay 41-2272, na pressão arterial de ratos sob tratamento cronico com inibidor da sintese de oxido nitrico
Recently, the compound BAY 41-2272, a pyirazolopyridine derivative, was described as an specific GCs activator by a mechanism that is independent of NO (Straub et al. ,2001; Stasch et al., 2001). In vitro experiments demonstrated that BAY 41-2272 stimulates potently sGC at concentrations of 0.1 nM to 100 Nrn, this effeet is potentiated in the presence of NO

Natural history of mazama bororo in the atlantic rain forest obtained through ethnozoology, photographic monitoring and telemetry.
The species Mazama bororo was proposed in 1996 based on the unique karyotype (2n=32-34) found in some captive animals. The present study began in 1998 and intended to confirm the occurrence of this species in nature as well as to develop deer capture methods adequate in forest environments and to obtain basic ecological information using etnozoological appro

17. Ecologia alimentar e area de vida de carnivoros da Floresta Nacional de Ipanema, Ipero, SP (Carnivora : Mammalia)
The aim of this work organized en Mo chapters was to obtain more information about the community of Camivora of the Floresta Nacional de Ipanema located in the State of São Paulo. It was possible to study with more details the diet of 5 species: otter (Lontra /ongicaudis), crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous), coati (Nasua nasua), oncilla (Leopardus tigrinus)

18. Continual monitoring of intraocular pressure: effect of central venous pressure, respiration, and eye movements on continual recordings of intraocular pressure in the rabbit, dog, and man.
A new method has been devised for continual monitoring of intraocular pressure by radiotelemetry. The use of this instrument for monitoring intraocular pressure by a variety of ophthalmic conditions is described.

19. Hypertension in mice lacking the proatrial natriuretic peptide convertase corin
Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a cardiac hormone that regulates blood pressure. In cardiomyocytes, the hormone is synthesized as a precursor, proatrial natriuretic peptide (pro-ANP), which is proteolytically converted to active ANP. Corin is a cardiac transmembrane serine protease that has been shown to process pro-ANP in vitro, but its physiological im

20. Vasomotor wave and blood pressure response to erect posture after operation for aortic coarctation.
Low frequency fluctuations (five to 10/min) in blood pressure, that is vasomotor waves, were recorded in the erect position in 18 patients operated upon for an isolated aortic coarctation six to eight and a half years previously, and compared with vasomotor waves in six age matched normotensive controls with respect to frequency and amplitude. The investigat

21. Paraplegia increased cardiac NGF content, sympathetic tonus, and the susceptibility to ischemia-induced ventricular tachycardia in conscious rats
Midthoracic spinal cord injury is associated with ventricular arrhythmias that are mediated, in part, by enhanced cardiac sympathetic activity. Furthermore, it is well known that sympathetic neurons have a lifelong requirement for nerve growth factor (NGF). NGF is a neurotrophin that supports the survival and differentiation of sympathetic neurons and enhanc

22. Endotoxin depresses heart rate variability in mice: cytokine and steroid effects
Heart rate variability (HRV) falls in humans with sepsis, but the mechanism is not well understood. We utilized a mouse model of endotoxemia to test the hypothesis that cytokines play a role in abnormal HRV during sepsis. Adult male C57BL/6 mice underwent surgical implantation of probes to continuously monitor electrocardiogram and temperature or blood press

23. Effects of ranitidine and sucralfate on ketoconazole bioavailability.
Ketoconazole is an oral imidazole antifungal agent useful in the treatment of opportunistic fungal infections. Gastrointestinal absorption of this agent is variable and dependent on the presence of gastric acid. This study compared the effects of concomitant sucralfate administration with ranitidine administration on the pharmacokinetic disposition of a 400-

24. Computerized 24-hour ambulatory esophageal pH monitoring and esophagogastroduodenoscopy in the reflux patient. A comparative study.
Ambulatory 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring and esophagogastroduodenoscopy were performed in 72 patients with symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux. Additionally, 22 asymptomatic healthy volunteers underwent pH monitoring. In patients with classic reflux symptoms and endoscopic esophagitis, a mean of 5.41 minutes/hour of reflux below pH 4 was found
