1. Detection, purification and characterization of a lectin from freshwater green algae Spirogyra spp.
ABSTRACT Freshwater algae are rich sources of structurally biologically active metabolites, such as fatty acids, steroids, carotenoids and polysaccharides. Among these metabolites, lectins stand out. Lectins are proteins or glycoproteins of non-immune origin which bind to carbohydrates or glycoconjugates, without changing ligand structure. Many studies have

2. Snake venom galactoside-binding lectins: a structural and functional overview
AbstractSnake venom galactoside-binding lectins (SVgalLs) comprise a class of toxins capable of recognizing and interacting with terminal galactoside residues of glycans. In the past 35 years, since the first report on the purification of thrombolectin from Bothrops atrox snake venom, several SVgalLs from Viperidae and Elapidae snake families have been descr

3. PurificaÃÃo, caracterizaÃÃo parcial e cristalizaÃÃo de uma lectina ligante de manose das sementes de Platymiscium floribundum Vogel / Purification, crystallization and partial characterization of a mannose binding lectin from the seeds of Platymiscium floribundum Vogel

4. PurificaÃÃo, caracterizaÃÃo e propriedades biolÃgicas de lectinas do equinodermo Holothuria grisea / Purification, partial characterization and biological properties of lectins from marine invertebrate Holothuria grisea

5. Partição da lectina de Canavalia grandiflora Benth em sistemas de duas fases aquosas e aplicação em processo cicatricial / Partition of the lectin from Canavalia grandiflora Benth in aqueous two-phase systems and application healing
The purification process is a limiting step of biomolecules for use in processes in biotechnology, especially lectins, due to the cost of up to 90%, and the large number of steps to obtain the pure molecule, resulting in a low yield. Thus, the aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) was proposed as an alternative for the purification of lectin from Canavalia grandif

6. Purification and biological effects of a C-type lectin isolated from Bothrops moojeni
Snake venom proteins from the C-type lectin family have very distinct biological activities despite their highly conserved primary structure, which is homologous to the carbohydrate recognition region of true C-type lectins. We purified a lectin-like protein (BmLec) from Bothrops moojeni venom and investigated its effect on platelet aggregation, insulin secr

Moringa oleifera is a tropical plant of great economic importance with several industrial and medicinal applications. Many parts of the plant are used and the seed extract is commonly employed for water purification to human consumption. Lectins are proteins or glycoproteins of nonimmune origin, which bind carbohydrates bioespecifically with agglutinant cell

8. Clonagem, expressão, purificação e estudos estruturais dos domínios de reconhecimento de carboidratos (CRDs) da galectina-4 humana / Cloning, expression, purification and structural studies of the carbohydrate-recognition domains (CRDs) of human galectin-4
The galectin family comprises a group of lectins where the carbohydrate-recognition domains (CRDs) display specific affinity for ß-galactosides. They are widely distributed in normal and neoplasic cells of different organisms and are involved in a great diversity of cellular mechanisms. The galectins have been focus of recent studies, mainly for their invol

9. Purificação e caracterização das lectinas ACL-I e ACL-II da esponja marinha axinella corrugata, imunolocalização da ACL-I e avaliação do seu potencial como marcador de transformação celular / Purification and characterization of lectins ACL-I and ACL-II from the marine sponge Axinella corrugata, immunolocalization of ACL-I and its evaluation as marker of cellular transformation

12. PROPRIEDADES BIOQUÍMICAS E BIOLÓGICAS DE PROTEÍNAS DE SEMENTES DE LEGUMINOSAS ARBÓREAS DA AMAZÔNIA
Seeds of leguminous have a high concentration of proteins, including proteinases inhibitors and lectins. Such proteins are involved in several metabolic processes in plants comprising the mechanism of defense against phytopathogenous fungi. The aim of this work was to detect the presence of these two classes of proteins in seeds of four tree species of Amazo
