1. A computational framework for predicting onset and crack propagation in composite structures via eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM)
Abstract The eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM) has been reliably used for analyzing crack growth in 3D structural elements over last years. In fact, many researchers have worked in this field, but it is scarce to find scientific contributions about 3D XFEM models applied to the failure of non-standard composite parts, such as tapered structures and thick

2. Investigation of Dosimetry in Four Human Head Models for Planar Monopole Antenna with a Coupling Feed for LTE/WWAN/WLAN Internal Mobile Phone
Abstract The objective of the present study is to evaluate the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) within the human head model exposed to the radiation of planar monopole antenna with T-shaped coupling feed and an inductive shorting strip. The presented design has a compact structure, a planar configuration and occupying a small size of 36×20mm2. Two wide bands

3. Effect of the hardener to epoxy monomer ratio on the water absorption behavior of the DGEBA/TETA epoxy system
Abstract The water absorption behavior of the DGEBA/TETA epoxy system was evaluated as a function of the epoxy monomer to amine hardener ratio. Weight gain versus immersion time curves were obtained and the experimental points were fitted using Fickian and Non-Fickian diffusion models. The results obtained showed that for all epoxy monomer to hardener ratios

4. Estudo do comportamento caótico e determinação de dimensão fractal em modelos pré-inflacionários não compactos / Study of chaotic behavior and determination of fractal dimension in noncompact preinflationary models

Recent advances on the field of high energy physics have enabled the study of matter under extreme conditions and, in this context, new states of matter are being discovered and speculated upon. Among these hypothetical states of matter is the one of deconfined quarks in high densities and/or temperatures. An environment with extreme densities and low temper

6. The impact of spatial data redundancy on SOLAP query performance
Geographic Data Warehouses (GDW) are one of the main technologies used in decision-making processes and spatial analysis, and the literature proposes several conceptual and logical data models for GDW. However, little effort has been focused on studying how spatial data redundancy affects SOLAP (Spatial On-Line Analytical Processing) query performance over G

7. Mapa auto-organizÃvel com campo receptivo adaptativo local para segmentaÃÃo de imagens
A new self-organizing map with variable topology is introduced for image segmentation. The proposed network, called Local Adaptive Receptive Field Self-organizing Map (LARFSOM) is based on the Self-organizing Map (SOM) and Grow When Required (GWR). The model main features are: adaptive final number of nodes, variable topology, new node insertion based on sim

8. Dynamics of coherent vortices in mixing layers using direct numerical and large-eddy simulations
Coherent vortices in turbulent mixing layers are investigated by means of Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) and Large-Eddy Simulation (LES). Subgrid-scale models defined in spectral and physical spaces are reviewed. The new "spectral-dynamic viscosity model", that allows to account for non-developed turbulence in the subgrid-scales, is discussed. Pseudo-spec

9. Sobre as teorias de campos com métrica indefinida / On the field theory with indefinite metric

10. Forced oscillation assessment of respiratory mechanics in ventilated patients
The forced oscillation technique (FOT) is a method for non-invasively assessing respiratory mechanics that is applicable both in paralysed and non-paralysed patients. As the FOT requires a minimal modification of the conventional ventilation setting and does not interfere with the ventilation protocol, the technique is potentially useful to monitor patient m

11. CSDBase: an interactive database for cold shock domain-containing proteins and the bacterial cold shock response
CSDBase (http://www.chemie.uni-marburg.de/~csdbase/) is an interactive Internet-embedded research platform providing detailed information on proteins containing the cold shock domain (CSD). It consists of two separated database cores, one dedicated to CSD protein information, and one to provide a powerful resource to relevant literature with emphasis on the

12. Transcriptional terminators of RNA polymerase II are associated with yeast replication origins.
The compact organization of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae genome necessitates that non-coding regulatory sequences reside in close proximity to one another. Here we show there is an intimate association between transcription terminators and DNA replication origins. Four replication origins were analyzed in a reporter gene assay that detects sequences that dir
