1. Gram-negative intestinal indigenous microbiota from two Siluriform fishes in a tropical reservoir
The Gram-negative intestinal microbiota of Hypostomus auroguttatus and Pimelodus maculatus, a detritivorous and an omnivorous fish species, respectively, were compared between fishes from the reservoir and the stretch of the river below the dam of the Funil hydroelectric plant, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Four selective culture media were used under aerobic and

3. Probiotic features of two oral Lactobacillus isolates
In this study, we checked lactobacilli strains of human origin for their potential as probiotic. Samples were collected from oral mucosa of 16 healthy individuals, out of which twenty isolates were obtained and two of them were selected and identified as Lactobacillus plantarum (G1) and L. casei (G3). Both isolates exhibited antagonistic action towards patho

4. Immune homeostasis to microorganisms in the guts of triatomines (Reduviidae): a review
Bacteria, fungi and parasites are in constant contact with the insect gut environment and can influence different aspects of the host gut physiology. Usually, some of these microorganisms develop and survive in the digestive tract. Therefore, the gut environment must be able to tolerate certain populations of these organisms for the establishment of interact

5. Isolamento e caracterização de peptídeos antimicrobianos derivados da digestão da hemoglobina em Rhipicephalus (Boophilus microplus) / Isolation and characterization of antimicrobial peptides produced during hemoglobin digestion on Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus.
The hemoglobin posses a great potential as an antimicrobial, being denominated hemocidins the antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) derived from heme containing proteins. The cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus is capable of processing large amounts of blood to its own metabolism. In this work we purified the hemocidins that are produced in the tick gut.

7. Gut permeability to lactulose and mannitol differs in treated Crohn's disease and celiac disease patients and healthy subjects
The gut barrier monitors and protects the gastrointestinal tract from challenges such as microorganisms, toxins and proteins that could act as antigens. There is evidence that gut barrier dysfunction may act as a primary disease mechanism in intestinal disorders. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the barrier function towards sugars after the appro

8. Evaluation of the probiotic properties in broilers of Pichia pastoris and a recombinant Pichia pastoris containing the Clostridium perfringens fosfolipase C gene / Avaliação como probióticos para frangos de corte de Pichia pastoris e Pichia pastoris recombinante contendo o gene da fosfolipase C de Clostridium perfringens
Antibiotics used for the last decades as growth promoters for animals, were banned in several countries because of the risk of inducing the appearance of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Probiotics, live microorganisms that benefit health promoting the stability of the gut microbiota, are their most promising substitutes. The objective of this research was to

9. Efeito de um inibidor de tripsina de sementes de Plathymenia foliolosa sobre o desenvolvimento e atividade enzimatica de Anagasta kuehniella / Effect of a trypsin inhibitor from Plathymenia foliolosa seeds on Anagasta kuehniella development and enzymatic activity
Proteinase inhibitors (PIs) are widely distributed in animals, microorganisms, and plants. Plant PIs are generally small proteins that have mainly been described as occurring in storage tissues, such as tubers and seeds, but they have also been found in the aerial parts of plants, in the leaves, flowers and roots. The possible roles suggested for seed protei

10. Perfil de suscetibilidade e detecção de marcadores genéticos de resistência em Streptococcus Agalactiae isolados de amostras animais e humanas
Streptococcus agalactiae, also referred as group B streptococci (GBS) are commensals microorganisms adapted to asymptomatic colonization of the mammalians gut and genitourinary tract. Initially, this specie was recognized as a major etiologic agent for bovine mastitis but has becoming a leading cause of invasive infections in human neonates. The reasons behi

11. First isolation of microorganisms from the gut diverticulum of Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae): new perspectives for an insect-bacteria association
We show for the first time that the ventral diverticulum of the mosquito gut (impermeable sugar storage organ) harbors microorganisms. The gut diverticulum from newly emerged and non-fed Aedes aegypti was dissected under aseptic conditions, homogenized and plated on BHI medium. Microbial isolates were identified by sequencing of 16S rDNA for bacteria and 28S

12. Influência da desnutrição energético-protéica no processo de translocação bacteriana em modelo experimental de obstrução intestinal em ratos
Malnutrition, highly prevalent in developing countries, is an old suffering that afflicts the humanity. The protein-energy malnutrition is presented as a state of food deficiency, with deficit in proteins and calories, provoking lower supplying of nutrients to the cells. Some studies have shown evidences of interaction between malnutrition and bacterial tran
