1. Ethephon as a potential tool to manage alternate bearing of ‘Fuji’ apple trees
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of different rates of ethephon on return bloom and yield, and fruit quality of ‘Fuji’ apple trees. The experiment was performed during the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 growing seasons. Eighteen-year-old Fuji Standard apple trees grafted on M.9 were sprayed with different rates of ethephon (300

2. Silicon nutrition counteracts salt-induced damage associated with changes in biochemical responses in apple
ABSTRACT Salt stress is an environmental challenge that adversely influences plant responses. Silicon (Si) nutrition plays critical roles in plant tolerance to salt stress. Apple (Malus domestica Borkh.), a salt sensitive fruit species, was used in the present experiment to investigate the influences of Si on salt stress as well as on alterations of biochemi

3. SCS426 Venice: new apple cultivar with glomerella leaf spot resistance and picking time in March
Abstract SCS426 Venice was developed by hybridization between Epagri 404-Imperatriz (♀) and Epagri 406-Baronesa (♂), performed at the Epagri Experimental Station in Caçador, SC, Brazil, in 2001. It requires less winter chilling than ‘Gala’ and ‘Fuji’ traditional clones, whose fruit is picked in March. It is resistant to glomerella leaf spot.

4. A brief history of the forty-five years of the Epagri apple breeding program in Brazil
Abstract The E’AppleBP is the largest Brazilian apple breeding program in activity in Brazil, with Brazilian and international contributions to breeding of apple cultivars, under public funding. The main objectives are development of new apple cultivars with good local climate adaptation, disease resistance, high yield, high fruit quality, good fruit stora

5. ‘SCS425 Luiza’: new apple cultivar with medium chilling requirement and resistant to glomerella leaf spot (colletotrichum spp.)

7. Effect of fruit ripening on bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity of apple beverages
Abstract The effect of the variety (Gala, Lis Gala and Fuji Suprema) and the ripening stage (unripe, ripe and senescent) of apples on the phenolic compounds (HPLC) and antioxidant capacity (FRAP and DPPH) of apple juices and ciders were evaluated. The phenolic content of the Gala and Lis Gala apple juices decreased from the unripe to ripe stages and increas

8. INFLUENCIA DEL USO DE MALLA PERLA Y ROJA EN LAS CONDICIONES MICRO-CLIMÁTICAS, DAÑO POR SOL Y DESARROLLO DE COLOR DE FRUTOS EN HUERTOS DE MANZANOS CVS. GALA Y FUJI
ABSTRACT Sun damage and the lack of color of fruits produced by excessive solar radiation and high temperatures is the biggest production problem in apple orchards in Chile. The objective of this research was to evaluate the use of colored nets as a tool for control of sun damage and improve color on apples. During the 2012-13 and 2013-14 season ´Fuji´ an

9. Development and optimization of a HPLC-RI method for the determination of major sugars in apple juice and evaluation of the effect of the ripening stage
The sugars in apple juice prove its authenticity and its sensory and nutritional properties. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a simple analytical method using high performance liquid chromatography with refractive index detection (HPLC-RI) to determinate and quantify the sugars sucrose, D-glucose, D-fructose, and D-sorbitol polyol in apple j

10. Multivariate analysis of the spectroscopic profile of the sugar fraction of apple pomace
Pomace, the main by-product of apple juice processing, contains all the fruit's compounds such as minerals, sugars, fibers, enzymes and secondary metabolites after bioprocessing. Dried pomace from four apple varieties (Gala, Fuji, Catarina and Joaquina) was used to extract fructose, glucose, and sucrose, the main soluble sugars contained in apple pomace, to

11. Osmo-dehydrated functional product containing fructo-oligosaccharides: physical, chemical and sensorial characteristics
The objective of the present study was to develop a functional product from the osmo-dehydrated Fuji apple incorporating FOS with acceptable physical, chemical and sensorial characteristics and potential for commercial-scale production. Some treatments were discarded due to texture and water activity that did not reach the desired quality parameters. The pro

12. Optimizing dehydration of apples Malus Domestica with fructo-oligosaccharide incorporation
The objective of the present study was to study the effect of the variables of the osmotic dehydration process on sliced Fuji apples (Malus domestica) using a 2 x 3² factorial design. The variables studied in the apple slices were the pretreatment (blanching or acidification), the temperatures (30, 45 and 60ºC) and the FOS concentration (40%, 50% and 60% m
