13. Evaluation of OSEB and SEBAL models for energy balance of a crop area in a humid subtropical climate
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the adequacy of the One-Source Energy Balance (OSEB) and Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) models to estimate evapotranspiration in grain growing areas with humid subtropical climate in Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The dataset was obtained from a micrometeorological station (Eddy Covariance) and MODIS (Mod

14. Proposal for a Monitoring and Dispatch System for Distributed Micro-Generation of Renewable Energy in Virtual Energy Centers
ABSTRACT The creation and updating of ANEEL (National Electricity Regulatory Agency) regulatory resolution on distributed generation provided a new business environment for the electricity sector, as well as enabling consumers to generate energy. In this context, distributed microgeneration plants management is a challenge, mainly for electric power distribu

15. Determinación de bajas concentraciones de hidrógeno en aleaciones de circonio utilizando radiografía de neutrones como técnica no destructiva
ABSTRACT Zircon base alloys (Zr) are used in the manufacture of fuel sheaths and structural components of power reactors because of their low neutron absorption. These alloys are susceptible to damage by hydrogen (H) because the concentration of the alloys can be increased locally in response to temperature or stress gradients. This causes a general degradat

16. Microscopía fototérmica para el estudio de transformaciones de fase
ABSTRACT A novel system allowing a high spatial resolution mapping of the thermal diffusivity as a function of temperature up to 1800 K is presented. The system is based on a photothermal technique recently developed by the group, consisting in measuring, with a probe laser beam, the curvature induced by local heating with a modulated pump laser. A microscop

17. Desdoblamiento de la transformación martensítica en un acero F82H de activación neutrónica reducida
ABSTRACT One of the most promising solutions to global energy supply is nuclear fusion. This process, which is implemented in nuclear fusion reactors (from which one of the first designs was the Tokamak), involves deuterium-tritium plasmas at very high temperature, confined in vacuum chambers of toroidal shape under the influence of strong magnetic fields. T

18. Amorphization of Graphite Flakes in Gray Cast Iron Under Tribological Load
A gray cast iron disc, which had been submitted to a heavy duty automotive brake test, was examined with energy filtered transmission electron microscopy. A graphite flake in a convenient angular position showed the shear interaction of graphite layers with the iron matrix in nano-scale resolution. Atomic layers of graphite were wedged into the ferritic bulk

19. Physiochemical and Optical Properties of GdF3:Pr@LaF3@SiO2 Microspheres
The polyol-based co-precipitation process was employed for synthesis of GdF3:Pr (core) and GdF3:Pr@LaF3 (core-shell) microspheres (MSs). Subsequently, an amorphous silica layer was deposited surrounding the core-shell MSs, which was verified from high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and FTIR results.

20. ZnO nanoparticle fabrication starting from ultra-high (1:2) PVOH/ZnAc proportion electrospun nanowire mats
Abstract: The high versatility of nanostructured ZnO has drawn considerable attention from the scientific community since the second half of the two thousand decade. Within this timeframe, electrospinning became one of the simplest ways to produce nanostructured ZnO. In this work, we present the production and characterization of ZnO nanoparticles obtained f

21. "Sweet Chemistry": a Green Way for Obtaining Selenium Nanoparticles Active against Cancer Cells
We present an environment friendly synthesis of selenium nanoparticles and the study of their cytotoxic activity against uterine sarcoma cancer and fibroblasts cells. Amorphous selenium (a-SeNPs) and trigonal selenium (t-SeNPs) were synthesized using D-fructose as the reducing agent and characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM

23. Laser cooling techniques: standard and alternated optical molasses
The technique of laser cooling, whose basic idea was proposed in 1975 [1], provided the development of many important areas like high-resolution spectroscopy [2], atomic clocks [3] and quantum gases confined in magnetic or optical traps [4, 5]. Among the techniques applied to cooling neutral atoms is the optical molasses [6] that will be explored in this wor

24. NIR Monitoring and Modelling of Soybean Oil Methanolysis with Multivariate Curve Resolution-Alternating Least Squares with Correlation Constraint
Near infrared spectroscopy in-line monitoring and modelling of soybean oil methanolysis has been done using multivariate curve resolution alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) with correlation constraint. This constraint allows for quantitation of the methyl ester formed with little calibration effort and the MCR model provides additionally a general descripti
