RESUMO
Le silence de la mer is a TV movie made in celebration of the Second World War 60Th Anniversary. The movie was adapted from the short-stories Le silence de la mer and Ce jour-là by Vercors, who wrote clandestinely during the Nazi occupation in France. The strategies applied by the production team during the translation process allow the construction of ideological points-of-view. The role of illumination of the German character Werner von Ebrennac is analyzed, in order to verify how the use of such cinematographic technique corroborates in the deconstruction of the imagistic representation of such character and in the construction of identifications with the spectator. Music is another analyzed element due to its importance for the filmic narrative construction. Music helps the development of scenes, enables the dialogue between characters and also inserts historical aspects relevant to the adaptation, once it interacts with image in the construction of the representation of reality based in social, historical, cultural and ideological contexts. Women‟s role is also analyzed in this work and understood as a way to valorize their contribution during the years under war. This research has its grounds in authors like Thomson, Kellner and Geertz and their concepts about culture as well as Venuti, Arrojo and Jakobson concerning the translation studies, in order to discuss the social, cultural and ideological aspects present in the intersemiotic translation process. Eco, Baudrillard and Bourdieu contributed for the discussions regarding mass communication media, mainly TV, and their power to form discourses, ideologies and identities. This analysis concluded that the adaptation studied changed the roles and social relationships during the war time, reinforcing a national identity and enabling the spectator to rescue memory. This research aims at contributing with other critical analyzes in a multidisciplinary approach
