RESUMO

Functionalization of silica gel with 3-propylimidazole was carried out in two steps: a) reaction of 3-chloro-propyltrimetoxisilane with imidazole and b) reaction of the obtained 3-(imidazole-l-yl)trimethoxysilane with the surface. Starting with a silica gel having 540 m.g of specific area, 63% of the surface was covered by the organofunctional groups resulting in a average surface concentration of 0,4 pendent molecules por nm. Langmuir equation was applied to describe the adsorption of CoX2 (X= acetate, chloride, nitrate, perchlorate and thiocyanate) from ethanol solutions. The values of the adsorptions capacities are between 0,62 x 10 and 1,54 x 10 mol.g, and the intensities of adsorption between 1,67 x 10 and 6, 96 x 10 l.mol. Eletronic and infrared spectra of the supported complexes, CoX2(IPG), were obtained in order to have informations about of the cobalt environment on the surface. Complexes of Co(salen) and Co(saloph) were also bounded on the modified surface. The enthalpy of reaction of gaseous CoCl2 with IPG, determined calorimetrically, is -223 KJ.mol.
