RESUMO

This study aims at identifying the deficiencies and distortions of the official students’ rehabilitation study plan and its actual practice. The study is divided into three parts. Firstly, it presents an analysis of the students’ rehabilitation studies concerning the 5692/71 LDB legislation. Secondly, a theoretical concept is introduced, which allows new prospects concerning a qualitative research, presenting a survey that was carried out in public schools of the State of São Paulo, where principals, coordinators, teachers, students and their parents were interviewed. In the third part, the data analyses show the problems regarding the rehabilitation studies conducted in public schools which are closely related to the teachers’ skill, the procedures that they use and, also, to structural factors in the teaching system and the school itself.
