RESUMO

The architectural design phase influences the construction phase and is responsible for dictating the project cost through the choice of building materials, finishes, square footage, and shape. Although the architecture design phase is of paramount importance for the success of design, few architecture firms worry enough about controlling the quality of their production process. The diversity of the agents involved during the design process is one of the difficulties faced by local architecture firms while trying to control the quality of their work.In this way, the implementation of systematic design management guidelines is of absolute importance in the development of design fit for production. In order to obtain these improvements, it is necessary to make these firms aware about the necessity of having their projects managed according to measurable quality guidelines, and the importance of obtaining feedback from the developers, builders and end-user throughout the entire development process. The goal of this thesis is to elaborate a diagnosis for the feedback process during the architecture design phase at the architecture firms in Brasilia, DF. We also analyze the importance of key milestones within the design phase, e.g. schematic design and construction documents, as related to historic quality measurements. Based on the bibliography used in this thesis, case studies were developed to diagnose the design management process in architecture firms in Brasilia. In the case studies, the design management process in architecture firms were analyzed and confronted with the elements related to the quality of the project based on obtained feedback.
