Investigando as ações de problematização no processo de projeto de arquitetura

RESUMO

The design situation starts with what Donald A. Schön (1983) calls the problematic situation: a real situation in which there is need for changing, and which is characterized by uncertainty, complexity and indetermination. The design activity is developed in this context in such a way that its final product establishes the framework of the changing plan for the problematic situation. One of the main initiatives required for the development of the design activity is to try to understand this problematic situation. In this initiative, the architect identifies all the variables that influence in this situation, and then, he should be able to conceive the configuration of his perception of the problematic situation, even if it is an abstract or mental one.Despite the existence of many studies on the nature of design problems, still remains a lot of doubts about how architects handle the design problem, or how architects perform such problematization. This lack of a deep knowledge on design actions, as well as on the cognitive processes involved in design problematization, configure the research problem of this dissertation. The objective of this study was to identify the problematization actions in the architectural design process. In order to achieve this objective a design experiment was developed, using Protocol Analysis as a methodological tool. As result, some problematization actions developed by the architect during the design experiment were identified and classified according to its directions: to understand the problem or to elaborate a solution. The results of this work may contribute to further investigations on the cognitive processes related to those design actions identified. This would bring breakthroughs to the understanding of design activity related to the development of competencies, and to teaching and learning in design.
