RESUMO

The virus of the hepatitis C and B affect 170 millions and 2 billions of persons, respectively, worldwide. The hepatitis C presents generally as assintomtic infection and rarely fulminating. However, it is estimated that 80% of the cases evolve a chronic infection, and, of those, 50% result in cirrhosis and/or hepatocarcinoma. The hepatitis B is also an important problem of health. Approximately 1% of the patients develop a fulminating form of diseases and 5 to 7% evolve to a chronic hepatitis (350 millions), however, the majority of the individuals infected with VHB has spontaneous recuperation. The transmission of those hepatotropics viruses (HCV and HBV) occurs, with bigger or smaller efficiency, by the routes of transmission human T cell lymphotropics virus (HTLVI/II) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). As consequence it is frequent the presence of the hepatitis C and B in patients bearers of the HTLV and HIV, enabling changes in the natural course of those infections. The co-infected patient (HCV/HIV and HBV/HIV) evolve more quickly for liver disease, being able to also evolve more quickly for aids. The consequences of those infections (HCV and VHB) in patients with HTLV little itself known. It is of great importance to investigate the prevalence of the hepatitis B and C in patients infected with the human retrovirus (HIV and/or HTLV) in the city of Salvador, Bahia - Brazil. There were three groups of patients: 200 infected with the HIV, 213 infected with the HTLV and 38 with double infected. The screening was carried out through the of ELISA. The prevalence of the hepatitis C was confirmed by the RIBA III and by the RT-PCR. The prevalence hepatitis B was of 22.0% for patients infected with HIV, 19.2% for the patients infected by the HTLV and 63.4% (p = 0.001) for the patients double infected (HTLV/HIV). In relation hepatitis C, in patients infected with HIV, the prevalence was of 13.0% (26/200). 80.9% (21/26) of the positive cases were confirmed by the RIBA, resulting a prevalence of 10.5% (21/200) and 8.5% (17/200) of the patients presented viremia. In patients infected by the HTLV the prevalence of hepatitis C, was of 4.2% (9/213), confirmed by the RIBA. 1.8% (4/213) of the patients were presenting viremia. The prevalence of hcv in patients double infected was 34.2% (13/38) (p=0.001), of those 28.9%(11/38) confirmed by the RIBA and 21.0% (8/38) of the patients presented viremia. It is concluded that a high prevalence exists the hepatotropics virus in patients infected by retroviruses, with rates ever high among those patients infected with both viruses (HIV/HTLV).
