RESUMO
This thesis presents a research about the teacher of Religious Teaching in Kindergarten and early years of Elementary School. The aspects investigated were: the characteristics of confessional catholic school and its educational project; the Religious Teaching as a field of knowledge; the initial and continued education of the teacher of Religious Teaching in Kindergarten and early years of Elementary School. The research was done based on qualitative view of phenomenological focus, using, as instrument of collecting data, a questionary filled in by 141 teachers of Kindergarten and early years of Elementary School, responsible for Religious Teaching classes. A total of 23 confessional catholic schools, members of Associação de Educação Católica AEC (Catholic Educational Association) of Curitiba county, participated in the research. The analysis of the gathered data was used to identify the necessary information to know the profile of the teacher who gives Religious Teaching classes. The results of this research showed that the teacher of Religious Teaching in Kindergarten and early years of Elementary School needs greater investments in continued education courses because of his insufficient initial education.
