RESUMO

This study had as the primordial objective, the investigation of a 1st to 4th Grade Elementary School Assistance program in the interior of the Museum of Sciences âParque Newton Freire Maiaâ (PNFM), called âPequenos Cientistas - Grandes CidadÃosâ, PCGC (Little Scientists - Great Citizens). The Museum of Sciences PNFM is located in the metropolitan area of Curitiba, district of Pinhais, under the SEED - State Secretary of Educationâs responsibility at present. This investigation comes from my professional experience as the general coordinator of the program, from 2004 to 2007, including a qualitative research through data collecting gathered from professionals of education who visit the museum under the orientation of the PCGC, and the mediators, professionals of PNFM involved in the program. The theoretical background supports itself in the concept of extended scientific literacy, and also in the concept of informal education and learning in Museums of Sciences and Technology Centers. Indeed, as a theoretical support, the concepts of sciences and technology are historically approached. The history of the Museum of Sciencesâ evolution is also presented, with its specificities and ideological influences. Moreover, this text treats the scientific, schooling and museographic knowledge, the didactics and museographic transposition, and the didactic mediation inherent to the program activities, which are supported methodologically in the work with projects. The results of the investigation revealed actions that differentiate from the reception of students in the Museum of Sciences to a methodology, which approximates the museological practice, disclosing, nevertheless, some exceptions with respect to the extended scientific and technological literacy of the involved subjects. The analysis also showed the needs for discussions around the practice of the PCGC in which the dialogue among students, teachers and mediators should be deepened. Thus, needs were found for more attentive reflections about the sciences and technology concepts experienced in the Museum of PNFM that should be considered in a way that it is geared into the direction of the extended ATC, in the light of a program which already shows itself efficient in the approach of the concepts of scientific and technological knowledge.
