RESUMO

Information systems are important for performance and development in organizations since they give a subsidy to all decisions and show all the ways to take the right path. The former efforts to increase teamwork productivity appeared under the name office automation in mid 70s, which was gradually substituted by Computer Supported Cooperative Work CSCW. The Strategic Information System SEI provides to São Paulo State Governments executives an IT toolset for workgroup. The present essay intends to make a case study focused on SEI historical development and its contribution to the users work. The text describes stages and strategies adopted in SEIs conception, implementation and technological variables definition. At last, presents a quantitative survey among users to infer, through their perception, if there was any improvement in decision making with SEI institution. The proposition for adjustments and improvements into SEI, derived from the survey results, will also be part of this essay conclusions
