O mestre de Filarmônica da Bahia: um educador musical.

RESUMO

The subject of this work is the pedagogic practice of the masters of the bands of the Bahia State, Brazil. These masters, main figures of this pedagogy, developed music education didactic that makes possible to adapt the music training to the individuality of each apprentice. The major part of this process of learning takes place with the veteran musicians and insists in the relationship of its members with the music routine of the institution. Music making is the focus of the band and the pedagogy favors the rapid training to the pupil‟s entrance in the ensemble. The work is structured in four chapters named after common expressions of the band masters pedagogy: As one reads, as one plays (methodology), Achieve the instrument (theoretical basis), To pass to the music stand (Data), To enter in the band (Analysis). The study considers the following questions: What competences do the masters need to perform their function? What pedagogical process do they use? How does the music body conceive the masters preparation? What are the difficulties of this practice nowadays? Is it possible to include in the regular school? The work concludes that the band master is a music educator. Many of his didactic approaches may proportionate a valuable contribution to the Brazilian Music Education. It is necessary to recognize him as educator, to value his music practices and to proportionate the dissemination of his knowledge.
