RESUMO

We contemplate the handling of solid residues while object of geographical research, as we believe in the possibility of centralization of such an object to reveal the own essence of the geographical study in the correlation of distinguishing concepts of the space-social interpretation, such as, the place, the landscape, the territory, the area and the regionalization. Our proposal consists fundamentally in the approach of the territorial planning, in the ambit of the geographical contribution glimpse that it can contain. Nevertheless, our purpose evokes in first instance, not to neglect the own definition of the territorial planning. In the present study we tried to find the "geographical vein? in the measurement of the demand for location of areas for the final destination of the solid residues generated in Great São Paulo, focusing the problem in the metropolitan capital, with the intention of revealing the involved territorial-administration conception, as well as the own intrinsic geographical tenor to this conception. Besides the resource of the historical research, we worked with traditional and digital cartography, remote sense and digital processing of orbital images, so with the geoprocessing to obtain, as practical result to the research, the mapping of sanitary embankments areas of the Municipal district of São Paulo, characterizing its surfaces of direct influence, as well as lifting the possible social-environmental implications in its respective places, fundamentally to those that are in critic state of maintenance regarding the quality of the adjacent urban environment.
