RESUMO

This research project has aimed at identifying the main concepts within the theoretical bases of communicative language teaching in specialized text. With that internt, content analysis was done on the book Dimensões comunicativas no ensino de línguas and of texts by four authors mentioned in the book as important readings for one who wishes to attain understanding of the theoretical bases behind communicative teaching. From the first source, terms and propositions were collected, which were subsequently classified by theme and arranged in diagrams representing conceptual relations between thematic fields. Starting from the analysis of these diagrams, three key terms were arrived at: use, discourse and acquisition. The reader is offered two source for clarification of the concepts which refer to these terms: the reading of the propositions and the simplified texts resulting from the content analysis of the other four sources.
