RESUMO

The national developing ideology is present in the whole decade 1950 and culminates in the most important event for this time that is the foundation of BrasÃlia, on April 21st 1960. In this period, in Recife, some intellectuals and artists formed a heterogeneous group, involved in either political or cultural movements. This group represents the emergence of a social category, independent of the institutional power and economic domination â demonstration on which depends the consolidation of the public domain. This dissertation intends to discuss these intellectualsâ social practices from the analyses of three characters in the literature made by authors from Recife cultural scene: Deodato, a Christian priest, from the romance âThe loneliness waysâ, written by Hermilo Borba Filho; Cheiroso, an owner of a glove puppet theater, from the play âThe Feather and the Lawâ written by Ariano Suassuna; and Celina, a professor from the romance âThe Visitorâ written by Osman Lins. They will be taken as three ideal-types from which will be analyzed some cosmological views that outlines citizenship projects that, in Recife, before the coup dâÃtat, try to solve the uncertain equation of the Modern Republic: to defend the common wealth in a society which priority is the execution of private interests.
