RESUMO

This text analyzes some variations of the impasse outlined in Lispector s first novel, Perto do coração selvagem, which leaves its trace when examining A paixão segundo G.H. and A hora da estrela. Since the first novel, it is possible to state the division of the characters, the division of the narrators, and the division of the texts between ?living? and ?knowing that one is living?. ?Knowing that one is living? relates to the symbolic order. The ?living? points towards what escapes from such order and remains as unspeakable, as empty. After delimiting the core of the problems, my text focused on three main aims: to reread A paixão segundo G. H. and A hora da estrela under a comparativist focus; to establish a dialogue with the criticism which causes the shift of rigid point of views and explores some gaps; and to establish the affinities and differences with Woolf s texts. The attempt of articulation among the texts delineates important questions for both Lispector and Woolf and as for the modern novel. The points are: the loss of a fixed identity of characters and narrators and the consequent division and vanishing of these figures; the opacity of language and an anguished questioning about the possibility of simbolization of what is real and, as a result, the possible transformation of it into melancholy; the fragmentation and multiplicity of points of views; the formulation through paradoxes and contradictions as well as the function assumed by literature in this portray of crisis of the language. Having lacanian psychoanalysis as a point of view and the dialogue with the criticism, I propose a frame that exposes the unique features which both woolfian and claricean texts raise to the mentioned issues
