RESUMO

This research aims at understanding the cinematography of AmÃcio Mazzaropi as an image system based on the dominions of the middle-age popular comic culture, in which a cunningquixotic figure is present turning the demands of a transforming structure, through laughter, satire, irony and grotesque, into a canraval-like constitution, as a form of cultural resistance. Thus, we intend to show that it is like a re-invented shrewd âcunning-quixotic-typeâ image that MazzaropiÂs characters wander throughout this particular universe, not only satirizing and treating in an ironic way the very dilemmas of his contemporary society, but also revealing the utopic ideal, such as in a personal or individualistic ambition perspective seen in classic Spanish cunning texts, as presenting the utopia as if it was the very space for an unusual society. Thus, our purpose is showing that MazzaropiÂs Jeca, no matter what characters it in incorporated in, can be seen as a figure that belongs to the gallery of cunnings from literature and cinema. Therefore, we have gone for a little walk into some reflections previously reported about Mazzaropi and his cinematography in order to understand what they talked about and what direction they led us to. In this work, we limited our investigations to academic reports and journalistic reviews available in the site Mazzaropi Museum âSucesso e CrÃticaâ. Our intent is to present our review as one more possibility of interpreting MazzaropiÂs workmanship. We have tried to situate it within a system of ideas about cinema in Brazil, introducing the contextualization of his work and the possible meaning of the drama lived by his characters. So, we have not focused on cinema neither as a registration system nor as how the technical instruments have registered it, but on cinema as a space that shelters the imaginary, and in this focus we have made used of Edgar Morin and Gilles Deleuze premises. Here we take the anthropology way, conceived by Gilbert Durand as âcomplex of sciences that study the homo-sapiens specieâ. We have used the âpragmatic and relativistic method of convergenceâ purposed by Durand, which has shown us some variations of the same archetypal subject
