RESUMO

Reading comprehension phenomenon is one of the aspects expressivenessly emphasized by evaluation instruments on a large scale in Brazil. Taking into consideration not only the interdisciplinary bent inherent to reading, but also the influence that those exams exert on school programs, this work aims at analysing the importance given to the teaching of reading and to the adoption of interdisciplinary practices in school, using Enem (Exame Nacional do Ensino MÃdio) as example. Twenty questions of this Brazilian high school national exam are here analysed and they are part of tests applied from 1999 to 2005. The elementar criterion used to select those questions was the presence of texts that use framing in their genres (e.g., comic strips, cartoons, etc.), which participate of studentsâ quotidian, inclusively in their non-school literacy practices. In our analysis, we consider reading as an interactive, social, cultural and historically constituted activity. This social-interactive dimension is also applied to our notion of literacy and to our perspective of intertextuality as a interdisciplinary resource â concepts which guide our investigation. The purpose of Enem is to evaluate students by testing their competences and skills, namely reading skills, interdisciplinarity and how they resolve problem-situations as fundamental concepts. The analysis of Matrix of Competence and the selected questions has suported this study, which reveals some difficulty in defining interdisciplinarity, given the complexity of this concept. This observation justifies that fact that even when it points out in their official documents the interdisciplinary nature of this exam, in fact, sometimes it is not possible to verify the relationship among all fields of knowledge when those questions are elaborated. So this work offers for discussion the viability of interdisciplinarity in current school context
