INTEGRAÇÃO DA CADEIA PRODUTIVA DO AGRONEGÓCIO DO CAJU AO DESENVOLVIMENTO SUSTENTÁVEL

RESUMO

This study aims to identify how the adoption of Cleaner Production can generate innovations and integrate the cashew fruit agribusiness production chain to a sustainable path. Initially, a literature review was developed on the themes: supply chain, environmental management and sustainability, and innovation management. It was analyzed the necessary elements to describe a generic production chain, the models of concern about waste and the model of Cleaner Production in detail, the local systems of innovation and the innovation management models respectively. This study served to elaborate a semi-structured interview script and to establish a panel of twenty experts who act in the sector. They were asked to reply to these questions based on the reality of Aracati Pole, empirical field of the study. The questions were formulated according to the following empirical-analytical categories: i) Characterization of the production chain; ii) Waste management and utilization; iii) Sustainability; iv) Sustainable innovation management and business opportunities; and v) Integration to sustainable development. The Analysis Plan was established aiming to transcript, organize and qualitatively analyze the data and information collected through the compiled documents, the observations and the implementation of the interview script. For this, the Thematic Analysis technique was used, which is part of the Content Analysis techniques set. In general the specific objectives of the study were achieved, because it was found that: (1) the identified supply chain presents the following elements: input suppliers; farmers; processors, divided into peduncle and cashew raw nut; traders; and consumer market, subdivided into internal and external. Furthermore, it was identified the participation of other elements such as: the State Government, the Federal Government, research institutions, financial institutions, and discussion forums; (2) It was recognized that Cleaner Production can be implemented with inputs suppliers, farmers and processors; (3) Innovations that enable a better use of cashew fruit were identified, resulting in business opportunities through the development of new products and through added value techniques. It was concluded that the integration of production chain to sustainable development depends on a better utilization of waste materials as business opportunities. At the end of the paper, indications of possible improvements in future studies are discussed.
