RESUMO

In the last years the shortage of water has been theme of discussions not only in scientific works but also in politics, media and civil society areas, due to the consciousness-raising to this problem worldwide. In Brazil, the metropolitan area of Campinas is among the ones that experience more deeply this kind of problem (DEA = 278.9 3m/year.inhabitant), which stimulates the industries to adopt measures for reduction of water consumption, under the risk of stagnation of its production. Among those industries there is Paulínia´s Refinery, which takes about 1653 m3/h from Jaguari River, a value very close to the one conceded (1870 m3/h), putting in risk future expansion already planned. The main objective of this work is to proceed with the survey of the detailed Hydric Balance of Paulínia´s Refinery, focusing all its process units, so that it can be used as a base of information for administration of the hydric resources wasted in its several ways (raw water, water for process, fire, drink water, demineralizated water, steam, etc.). Besides, there was the intention of raising eventual misuse and wasting, which will allow the implementation of programs for reduction of water consumption, e.g. reuse not accomplished yet. As main result, it was verified that 61.5% of total water captured for the refinery do not arrive at the treatment station, that is, occur losses in the processes, being the great referring majority to the evaporation in the cooling towers, intrinsic factor to the process. Another important identified point is the relationship between the maintenance of some equipment and the consequent waste of water. With the solution for the identified problems, it is considered that the water reception could be reduced in 6.4 % and the generation of wastes in 16.9 %. To conclude, in spite of the inherent complexity of a petroleum refine industrial plant, the adopted methodology allowed the rising of solid results for both individual and global Hydric Balances of the several units of process at REPLAN. This fact was proved by the small difference between the sum of the individual (micro) and total (micro) values of losses, of approximately 1.9%
